God Is Not Ashamed
Most people know what it is like to be “ashamed” of something. One doesn’t want to talk about it or even think about it. People can be “ashamed” of their own failings and faults — or the failings and faults of someone near-and-dear to them. It doesn’t matter. It all hurts the same deep down inside. Parents don’t want to be ashamed of their children’s sins. Children don’t want to be ashamed of their parent’s sins. The same can be said of business relationships, athletic relationships, friendships, etc.
It’s just nice to feel good about the things that are really important to us.
In Hebrews 11, faithful children of God are spoken about. It says they all died in faith — without having received the promises of a better country. But, the fact that they didn’t receive an earthly country was totally okay with them. Hebrews 11:16 says why,
But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.
Are we looking for that “heavenly” country that God has promised all who simply believe and trust in Him? Or — are we looking for the riches, honors, popularity, and successes of this world, that will all amount to nothing in the end?
Will God have to be “ashamed” of us for only wanting the things of this world? Do we honestly only look forward to all the promises of an eternal home in heaven? Or, are we still so covetous of the riches and honors this sinful world offers?
We are near-and-dear to the LORD. Believe it — or not. Let us not cause Him to be “ashamed” of us.
Only looking forward to eternal life with our LORD and Savior, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for precious, eternal promises.”
Love,
Margaret
