Let Me Know  How Transient  I Am

Talk about  how our time  on earth  just flies by.     Since the beginning,  nobody has known  just how  or when  their life  on earth might end.     Our lives can be taken  by disease;  accident;  war;  sick, hateful enemies;  or old age.     Whatever the case,  the end  of our life  on earth is assured.     There is absolutely nothing  we can do  about it.

The only thing  that makes a difference is:   Do we know  the LORD God,  our Savior  in Christ Jesus  —  or not?

Knowing and trusting  the promises  of God  from the very beginning  of time  is what makes a difference  —  the difference between eternal life  or eternal death.     Because  we so easily  get wrapped up  in the here and now,  King David prayed  in Psalm 39:4,

Let me know  how transient  I am.

David wanted  to always  be aware  that today  just might be  his last day  on earth  —  and he had better live it  to the glory  of God our Savior.     Long before David lived,  Moses prayed  in Psalm 90:12,

So teach us  to number  our days,
That we may  present  to You  a heart  of wisdom.

Both Moses  and King David  wanted  to reach God upon their earthly death,  with hearts  and souls  that really knew how  to rightfully  honor God  when meeting Him  face-to-face  in heaven.     We also  need God  to teach us  just how very  “transient”  we are,  so that we will be  wise enough  to “number our days”.

However long we have,  may we always be aware  that today  just might be  our last day  to live  to God’s glory.     And,  may we never have reason  to be ashamed.

Knowing God’s nearness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You for keeping us  near to You  throughout our lives.”

Love,
Margaret
