Those  Who Are  of the Faith  of Abraham

This is a mixed up world.     Some wish they were  of Jewish descent  because they feel  they would then  be God’s beloved  —  and others despise  the Israelites,  wanting nothing  to do with them.     Both are extreme.     Being  of a physical Jewish descent  does not necessarily  draw one closer  to a saving faith  in Christ Jesus.     But,  wanting nothing  to do with the Jewish faith  certainly can  keep one away  from a saving faith  in Christ Jesus.

Understanding the origin  and background  of the Israelites  is helpful  in setting things straight.     Abraham  is noted  as being the one  to whom  God promised  that his descendants  would be a blessing  to all nations  —  the whole world  —  in other words,  the Savior would be  Abram’s descendant.     Abram believed  the LORD’s promise,  so according to God’s directions,  Abram and his wife,  Sarai,  left their home  in Ur  of the Chaldeans,  so they could enter Canaan,  the promised land, where the Savior was  to be born.   (Genesis 11-12)

It’s important  to note that Ur  of the Chaldeans  was a very heathen place.     Those people worshiped many gods  —  not including the LORD.     So,  Abram  was born  and raised  in a heathen setting  —  just like many  of our ancestors were.     He obeyed God  and left those heathens  —  traveling through  another heathen area called Canaan,  which was the land God promised  to give his descendants.     Abraham never got  to call the land  of Canaan  his own,  but he  nevertheless  retained his faith  in God’s promise.

Well over 700 years later,  Moses led  the Israelites  into the Promised Land  —  and approximately 1440 years  after that  Christ Jesus,  our Savior was born.     God called Abraham righteous  because he believed  God’s promise.     After Moses gave God’s Ten Commandments,  the people were still saved  by faith alone.

So,  Romans 4:16  tells those  who imagine only obeying the Law  will get them  to heaven,

For this reason  it is by faith,  in order  that it may be  in accordance  with grace,  so that the promise  will be guaranteed  to ALL  the descendants,  not only  to those  who are  of the Law,  but also  to those  who are  of the faith  of Abraham,  who is the father  of us all.

God saves ALL  by grace  through faith  in Jesus,  so we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  You make us glad  in Christ Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
