Following  the Same Example

Most people  are followers.     They want  to dress  in the latest fads  so they won’t feel out of place  —  take on the speech patterns  of the group  they want to associate with  —  have friends  who are popular  —  listen to the same music  as their friends,  etc.     The group they are  “following” might be good  —  or they might be so bad  as to ruin  one’s whole future.

The story  of Israel  is a story wherein some followed the LORD’s ways,  and others followed the world’s ways  by worshiping idols,  living like heathens,  and disobeying God’s directions  for life.     God had given  the promise  of “rest” to all  who faithfully trusted  His wisdom  and promises.     On earth  that “rest” could include  a good place  to live  and prosper.     In eternity,  that “rest” in heaven  would be the bliss  and relief  from all the evils  of this world.

Hebrews 4:11  makes a strong point  to everyone  in this world.     It says,

Therefore  let us  be diligent  to enter  that rest,  so that no one will fall,  through following  the same example  of disobedience.

Because  of all sorts  of temptations  to sin,  we need  to be wise enough  to  “be diligent  to enter  that rest”.     The “rest”  is rewarded only  to those who diligently remain  God’s children of faith.     Those who desert  God our Savior  through wilful “disobedience”  —  defiantly living  in sin  and unbelief,  will not receive  that special “rest”  in heaven.

We need  to keep our faith  in God  and patiently live  according to His word  until we reach  God’s promised “rest”  in heaven.     We can’t afford  to be lazy  or defiant  about living by faith.     Let us be “following”  Jesus’  “example”  of living  in God’s truths.     It’s not worth it  to be following  the same example  of disobedience”  that some Israelites did.

Resting in Jesus’ love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your way  is so good  and right.”

Love,
Margaret
