She  Considered Him  Faithful

God Almighty  has made promises  throughout His word  in the Bible.     Many choose  to never believe those promises  of complete forgiveness,  mercy,  love,  caring,  a Savior,  eternal life,  and so much more.     Some sadly feel  that God’s promises  are not for them  because they aren’t  “good enough”.     Some don’t believe in God  or any promises.

We need  to think  about our response  to God’s promises  —  and why  we are responding  that way.

We’ll consider  the biblical account  of Abraham and Sarah.     They had no child  to fulfill  God’s promise  to build a great nation  from their descendants.     But God  had promised them  a son,  and many years had passed  without a fulfillment  of that promise.     So,  Sarah’s  response  to God’s promise  was to eventually  convince Abraham  to have a child through her maid,  as a way  of fulfilling God’s promise  —  but that son,  Ishmael,  was not God’s promised son.

When God repeated  His promise  to Abraham,  Sarah was listening  and laughed at the very thought  of it  because she was  way beyond the age  of child bearing.     But,  as time went on,  Sarah thought about  how God had always been faithful  — and how  He is holy  and almighty.     So, Hebrews 11:11 tells us,

By faith  even Sarah herself  received ability  to conceive,  even beyond  the proper time  of life,  since she considered Him  faithful  who had promised.

Sarah finally responded rightly  to God’s promise  —  and she conceived  and bore Isaac,  even though she was far beyond  her child bearing years.     As with Sarah,  our proper response  to all God’s promises  is to believe them,  because God is holy,  faithful,  righteous,  and almighty  in all He does.     All who trust God’s promises  are open  to God’s work  in their lives.

We need  to realize  that Sarah’s faith  was definitely not  any sort  of human will power,  “positive thinking”  or  “mind over matter”.     Sarah simply  considered Him faithful  who had promised”.     That’s how   our faith  should be.

So,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for being faithful  to Your promises.”

Love,
Margaret
