Choice  and Precious  in the Sight  of God

Throughout scripture  are many references  calling God Almighty  our Rock.     This is an earthly picture  for us  to realize  that God is strong  —  our place  of sure defense  —  and a solid foundation  for our lives.     Christ is called  the Rock  of our salvation  because He is everyone’s  one-and-only possibility  of salvation.

That is why  the apostle Peter taught Christians  to give up  their sinful ways  and instructs us  in 1 Peter 2:4-5,

And coming  to Him  as to a living stone  which has been rejected  by men,  but is choice  and precious  in the sight  of God,  you also,  as living stones,  are being built up  as a spiritual house  for a holy priesthood,  to offer up  spiritual sacrifices  acceptable  to God  through Christ Jesus.

As a “living stone”,  Jesus is forever  our strength  and sure defense.     Because the salvation  Jesus gives us  is so sure  for all eternity,  He is  “choice  and precious  in the sight  of God.”     According  to God’s  holiness,  wisdom,  and righteousness,  only Jesus  is the perfect way  of salvation  for God’s children.

Nevertheless,  people have  “rejected” Jesus  from the beginning.     Sadly,  to all unbelievers,  Isaiah 8:14   says  Jesus is,

A stone  of stumbling  and a rock  of offense.

Unbelievers hate the idea  of trusting  in the blood  of Jesus  to forgive them  of all their sins.     They want  to trust  their own ability  to take care  of themselves.     Their stubborn disobedience  and pride  causes them  to stumble over needing  to humble themselves  before Jesus.     But  only Jesus  is perfect  and able  to take away  the judgment due  for our sins.

Jesus is “choice  and precious”  in God’s sight  —  He needs  to be  “choice and precious”  in our sight also.

Ever rejoicing  in Jesus’ strong love  for us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for graciously saving us.”

Love,
Margaret
