To Grant Peace on Earth

To Grant Peace  on Earth

As we think  of all  the unrest  and terrorism  that is going on  in this world,  there is a longing  for “peace”.     We might even think  of Isaiah 9:6  where Jesus is called  “the Prince  of Peace  —  and wonder  where there is “peace”  —  after all,  on the night Jesus was born,  the angels sang  in Luke 2:14,

Glory  to God  in the highest,
And on earth peace  among men  with whom  He is pleased.

And,  here we note  that this  “peace” is granted “among men  with whom  He is pleased.     God’s “peace”  is with believers.     We are saved  by faith  and our faith gives us “peace”  as we trust God  to lead us  through this life.     We are promised trials  and tribulations,  but through it all,  we have the  “peace”  of God  through faith.

As a matter of fact,  when Jesus taught  about the end days,  He said  in Luke 12:51,

Do you suppose  that I came  to grant peace  on earth?     I tell you,  no,  but rather division.

Jesus foretold  how even families  would be torn apart  between believers  and unbelievers.     It has been foretold  that God’s children  will be persecuted  for their faith.     In spite  of all that,  Jesus tells us  in John 16:33,

These things  I have spoken  to you,  so that  in Me  you may have peace.     In the world  you have tribulation,  but take courage;  I have overcome  the world.

Jesus also promises us  in John 14:27,

Peace  I leave with you;  My peace  I give  to you;  not as the world gives  do I give  to you.     Do not let your heart  be troubled,  nor let it  be fearful.

As we look  to God  and His promises,  we rest  in His almighty faithfulness,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for the peace  that surpasses  all understanding.”

Love,
Margaret
