How Blessed Is He  Whose Transgression  Is Forgiven

The norm  for so many is  to sin  and never say anything about it.     They don’t tell God  about their sins  or ask  for forgiveness.     Instead,  they do their best  to forget about it  —  or even  to justify their sins.     Some sins  are bottled up  and make a person feel agitated  and at unrest  for years.     If they claim  to themselves  that they are still better  than the average Joe,  they often  do forget about  and deny many  of their sins  over time.

But,  God does not forget.

For us sinners  to be unrepentant  creates an even bigger sin  in God’s eyes.     Why?     Because it’s a total lack  of faith,  hope,  and love  —  towards our fellow human beings,  and towards our Creator Redeemer.

King David had  a full realization  of this.     In his reverence  for the LORD,  David often asked  for forgiveness  and guidance  in life.     When he tried  to hide his sins,  his conscience bothered him terribly,  because he knew  that God was aware  of his every thought  and action.     Confessing his sins  and accepting God’s sure forgiveness  relieved him so greatly  that David had peace  and joy.

That’s why David wrote  in Psalm 32:1-2,

How blessed  is he  whose transgression  is forgiven,
Whose sin  is covered!
How blessed  is the man  to whom  the LORD  does not impute iniquity,
And  in whose spirit  there is no deceit!

Those who are  “forgiven”  are free  to live  in God’s peace.     They don’t have to hide  from God  or carry the burden  of guilt.     “Forgiven”,  they are assured  of being joyfully welcomed  into our heavenly home.     That’s worth everything,  so David tells us all  in verse 11,

Be glad  in the LORD  and rejoice,  you righteous ones;
And shout  for joy,  all you  who are upright  in heart.

Forgiven,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  You make us glad  in Your faithful love.”

Love,
