O Taste  and See  That the LORD  Is Good

King David often faced  dangers  of every kind  as he fought  in many battles  to protect Israel  from their enemies.     In every battle,  he looked  to the LORD  for the help  and guidance  he needed.     Because David honestly trusted  in the LORD’s leading  and always had a thankful heart  for God’s ways  ( even when they were hard  and testy ),  the LORD answered David’s prayers  for help.

David’s trust  was based on a deep reverence  for God’s authority  in every aspect  of our lives.     As our Creator Redeemer,  God has proven Himself  to always be faithful.     And,  God’s wisdom surpasses our wildest imaginations.     We need  to realize the awesomeness  of God’s power  as it is revealed  throughout all of creation  —  and in God’s ability  to fulfill  so many prophecies  regarding our Savior,  Christ Jesus.

David’s trust  was based  on God’s eternal word  —  and an appreciation of all that God has done.     That is why David wrote  in Psalm 34:8-9,

O taste  and see  that the LORD  is good;
How blessed  is the man  who takes refuge  in Him!
O fear the LORD,  you His saints;
For  to those  who fear Him  there is no want.

When David asks us to  “taste  and see  that the LORD  is good”,  he is asking us  to check out  God’s word  and “see” what God has done  in the lives  of His faithful.     As we “taste”  God’s word,  we will “see” how very righteous  and holy God is  in all His ways.     We will see God’s truths  and develop a deep respect  (fear) and reverence  for His authority  in our lives.

Experiencing  the truthfulness  of God’s word  will make our lives “blessed”  as we learn  to take “refuge  in Him”  the way David did.

Thankful  for God’s work  in our lives,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for stooping down  to help us.”

Love,
Margaret
