Give Me Understanding

I don’t know  how it is  with other people,  but I really want  and greatly need  “understanding”.     I know  I’ll never fathom  how God made the world  and all that there is.    But,  I stand  in awe  of His power  to have done just that.

It’s just that  it’s seems vital  to understand God’s ways,  so that we’re willing  to accept them  in our personal lives.     It seems like bad things happen  —  but maybe,  that is just the LORD  pointing out the way  we need  to change  our lives.     Maybe God is just wanting  to urge us on  to grow  in faith,  hope,  and love.

In our sinful natures,  we just might not  quite realize that.

That is why  Psalm 119:169 fervently prays,

Let my cry  come before You,  O LORD;
Give me understanding  according  to Your word.

When we honestly seek  to know  the LORD’s ways,  He has promised  to show us  or assure us  of His love  “according to”  His  “word”.

In the midst  of our prayers,  we ashamedly realize  how we go astray  from our LORD  and Shepherd.     So,  we humbly pray  in Psalm 119:176,

I have gone astray  like a lost sheep;  seek Your servant,
For  I do not forget  Your commandments.

We haven’t really forgotten  what  God wants us  to do.     But,  nevertheless,  we go  “astray  like a lost sheep”.     It’s pitiful  —  but that’s what happens.      We’re a bit  on the “ding-dong” side   of God’s truths.     Realizing  God’s love,  and how much we need His help,  we cry out,  Give me understanding  according to Your word.”

We truly need  understanding  according to  God’s  “word”.     The immoral ways  of this world  can never set us straight  or give us  the peace  of God’s love.     We need  God Himself  in our lives.

When God enters  the picture,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for giving us understanding  according to Your word.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.
