That You May Be Feared
That You May Be Feared
These days, there are instances when teachers, parents, police, and others in positions of authority are not respected for their position. There are even those who arrogantly refuse to respect and fear the LORD God Almighty, denying the fact that He alone is our Creator, Redeemer, and Judge for all eternity.
But, the psalmist did respect and fear the LORD for His almighty love and authority. He wrote in Psalm 130:1-4,
Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD.
Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.
If You, LORD, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with You,
That You may be feared.
Instead of depending on mankind to be his help, the psalmist totally looked to the LORD for help. He had no doubts about God’s authority over every single bit of his life. God allows us to live from day to day. He alone has the authority to judge our every thought and action — and then either forgive our sins or send us to eternal damnation.
That authority needs to be respected and feared. It is awfully foolish to refuse to confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, when God has the power to forgive according to our faith in Jesus Christ.
God’s loving forgiveness deserves our love in return — and our respect and fear. In joyful love, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for washing away all our sins in the shed blood of Christ Jesus.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
