Shaken  From Your Composure

Over the years,  there have been many false prophets  who have predicted  the end day  for this world.     Their false prophecies  and preaching  have “disturbed” many,  leading them into  other false teachings.     But,  Jesus has specifically told us  in Mark 13:33,

Take heed,  keep on the alert;  for you do not know  when the appointed time  will come.

We have already been told  in the New Testament  that there will be wars,  natural disasters,  false prophets,  and that the hearts  of the people  will be cold.     People have seen these signs  ever since Jesus’ resurrection  and have been keeping on “the alert”.     But,  Jesus has told us  that absolutely no one  will know  exactly  when or how  the end will come.     So,  we must not pretend  that we know.

As “alert”  as we must be,  we still are not to believe anyone  who claims  they have evidence  that the end  is actually here  or will be here  in short order.     Instead,  we are to look  to Jesus  in a quiet,  calm faith,  and live our lives  for Him.     And,  we listen  to Paul  in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3,

Now  we request you,  brethren,  with regard  to the coming  of our Lord Jesus Christ  and our gathering together  to Him,  that you not be quickly shaken  from your composure  or be disturbed  either by a spirit  or a message  or a letter  as if from us,  to the effect  that the day  of the Lord has come.     Let no one  in any way  deceive you…

Our  “composure”  must be  of a sure faith,  joyfully looking  for Christ’s return  —  knowing we are  in His tender care.     As ready as we keep  our hearts,  we do not let anyone “disturb”  our peace  in Jesus.     They may claim visions,  prophesies,  an interpretation  of God’s word,  or whatever  —  but we are  to only look  to our Savior.

In the joy  of salvation through Christ Jesus alone,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for the peace  of Your eternal word.”

Love,
Margaret
