Praise  Is Becoming

As a psalmist lists many  of his reasons  for praising the LORD,  he says   in Psalm 147:1,

Praise the LORD!
For it is good  to sing praises  to our God;
For it is pleasant  and praise  is becoming.

We sing honest praises  when our hearts  are thankful  and in wonder  over all the marvelous things  God has done.     It is truly good  for us  to have hearts  of thanksgiving  and love.     We need  to see  and realize all that is wonderful  in creation  and in our salvation.     They consist  of one miracle after another.     There is no way  anyone can explain  how God is able  to do all  that He has done.     Unable to explain anything,  we just  naturally  “praise the LORD”.

That true “praise”  is the “praise”  that is so  “becoming”  in God’s eyes.

God’s word  tells us more  about “praise”  that we need to be aware of.     Psalm 33:1  says,

Sing for joy  in the LORD,  O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming  to the upright.

God’s word specifically mentions that  “praise is becoming  to the upright.     The “righteous”“upright” ones are those who honestly believe  and trust  in the LORD.     Their praise is not  in the least bit  insincere  —  they love and respect the LORD  for who He is.

Contrast that  with Psalm 50:16-17,

But  to the wicked  God says,
“What right have you  to tell  of My statutes,
And to take  My covenant  in your mouth?
For you hate discipline,
And you cast  My words  behind you.”

There are those  who make out  like they’re Christians,  but they  “hate discipline”  and refuse  to trust God’s  “words”  about repentance  and salvation.     God calls them “wicked”  for their hypocrisy.

That is why  “praise  is becoming  to the upright”.     “The upright”  are sincere  in their faith  and “praise”.

As we rightfully  “praise”  God,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  You have done all things well  in holiness,  righteousness,  and an eternal love.”

Love,
Margaret
