One Thing  I Have Asked  From the LORD

If you had just one thing  to ask  “from the LORD”  —  God Almighty  —  what would it be?     Would it be a better job?  —  more money?  —  friends?  —  a comfortable life?     King David  had a request  much better than any of that.     In Psalm 27:4  David said,

One thing  I have asked  from the LORD,  that I shall seek:
That I may dwell  in the house  of the LORD  all the days  of my life,
To behold  the beauty  of the LORD
And to meditate  in His temple.

That’s the  “one thing”  we all need  —  because it leads us  to eternal life.     It grounds us  in the truth  of our being  and God’s love.     If we don’t know  “the beauty  of the LORD”,  we have no clue  how wondrous  and great  His love for us is.     It is only as we  “dwell  in the house  of the LORD”  that we learn  how marvelously awesome He is  in His love  towards us.

All of creation  is beautiful  and marvelous.     But,  God’s love  and salvation  for us  is much more beautiful  and marvelous.     It truly is something wondrous  “to meditate” on  “in His temple”.     We are  “in His temple”  where ever we are  as we “meditate”  on His word,  glory,  beauty,  and wondrous salvation.

Truly,  as David said,  we need  —  really need  —  to “dwell  in the house  of the LORD  all the days  of my life.”     A minute here  and there  is not enough  to realize  how God is with us  moment by moment  —  in all of our troubles.     God doesn’t leave us  —  but we leave Him  altogether too many times.

May we always pray,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for wanting  to be with us  every day,  all day.     We need You every moment  of every day.”

Love,
Margaret
