The One  Who Does Good  Is of God

In 3 John 1:9-10,  the apostle John wrote  about a wicked church leader,  Diotrephes,  “who loves  to be first  among them,”  “does not accept  what we say,”  “unjustly accusing us  with wicked words,”  “does not receive  the brethren,”  and  “forbids those who desire  to do so  and puts them out  of the church.”

That’s a lot  of wickedness  from someone  who pushes his way  into being a church leader.     In his lovelessness  and arrogance,  he did not even accept  the preaching  of Jesus’ apostles  or of bonafide preachers traveling  through their area.     And,  when true Christians  were loving  towards God’s traveling preachers,  Diotrephes  would put them  “out of the church”.

There are  churches today facing the same sort of people  trying to force  their ungodly ways  upon a congregation.     The apostle John said the following  in 3 John 1:11,  about the situation,

Beloved,  do not imitate  what is evil,  but what is good.     The one  who does good  is of God;  the one who does evil  has not seen God.

We are not to  “imitate”  any of the “evil”  ways  of such wicked leaders.     Rather,  we are to “imitate” all the “good” examples  that God has set before us  throughout His eternal word.     As we follow  the good examples  in God’s word,  we can be well assured that the one who does good  is of God;  the one  who does evil  has not seen God.”

When our faith  “is of God”  —  just the way the Bible instructs us  —  we know  we are eternally saved.     But,  all those who  have “not seen God”  will be eternally condemned.     To have  “not seen God”  means that they don’t believe  God’s word  of salvation  through faith  in Christ alone  —  or that God will judge them  for all eternity.     Unbelief condemns.

Trusting  in our LORD,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for faithfully being near us.”

Love,
Margaret
