May You Make Me  to Hear Joy  and Gladness

When King David  had sinned greatly ,  he acknowledged  his sins  and realized  that he had  most greatly  really sinned   against God Almighty.     He repentantly realized  that the LORD  truly wanted “truth in the innermost being”  from him.      (Psalm 51:6)

And,  that is exactly what the LORD wants  from each  and every one  of us  —  “truth  in the innermost being.”

So,  are we willing  to admit  our sins  to the LORD God Almighty?

When David continued  his prayer  of repentance,  he asked  of the LORD  in Psalm 51:8,

Make me  to hear  joy  and gladness,
Let the bones  which You have broken  rejoice.

God had so humbled King David,  that he felt totally crushed.     David felt  that all his “bones”  were “broken”.     In his brokenness,  David begged  for God’s forgiveness,  so that his whole being could  “hear joy  and gladness”.      David wanted God to  “let the bones  which You have broken  rejoice”.

God had crushed David’s spirit  down  to an acknowledgement  of his sinfulness.     In this broken spiritual condition,  David needed assurance  of God’s forgiveness  upon his repentance,  so he prayed,  “Make me  to hear  joy  and gladness”.     In other words,  David wanted  to be assured  from God’s word  that his sins  were truly forgiven.

Don’t we want  the same?

We truly need  to know  that we are forgiven  —  so that we can  “hear joy  and gladness”.     Our  “joy  and gladness”  needs the honest assurance  of our eternal Savior  —  Christ Jesus.     All that  is repeatedly found  throughout God’s word  in regards  to our Savior.

May we honestly listen  and truly “hear”  God’s promises  of thorough forgiveness,  and then say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for making us  thoroughly  whole again  in our whole being!”

Love,
Margaret
