Blessed Are  the Meek

In Matthew 5:5,  Jesus taught us,

Blessed are  the meek,  for they shall inherit  the earth.

The “meek”  are not weak.     Much rather,  they are those  who have self-control  in all situations  because they know for sure  that God Almighty  is ultimately  in control  of everything that happens to us  in this life.     Because God is in control  and loves us dearly,  we know  we are in His protective care,  no matter what happens.     All things will work out for our good  in the end.

The “meek”  are humble  in their attitude towards others  because  they know  that God will judge us all.     The “meek” do not let worldly people push them around  because they have a strong faith  in what God teaches us  about right and wrong  —  so they stand for what is right.     Neither do they need  to get hot under the collar and take revenge  on what others do.

Since we are all under God’s authority,  the “meek”  willingly live  according to God’s will.     They don’t have to feel provoked by others, because they trust  that God will care for them  in every trial.

So,  what did Jesus mean when He said  the “meek”  will  “inherit the earth”?     This promise  of God means that God will never let His “meek” children end up  with the short end  of a deal.     Even though things may appear  to be a raw deal,  God will turn it all  into a blessing  in the end.     The “meek”  will always be  God’s winners  in the end  while living on this “earth”.     In that way,  they “inherit”  what is good  on this  “earth”  and gain heaven  for all eternity.    God gives us what is good.

In the wonder  of God’s loving care  over the years,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for leading us through this earthly life,  and caring for our every need.     We know we don’t have to worry  when bad things happen.”

Love,
Margaret
