A Safeguard  for You

“Safeguards”  are so good.     There are rails along steep steps,  rails along highways over steep mountain passages,  locks on doors,  warning signs  in various situations,  etc.     They all are meant  to protect us  from dangerous predicaments  and even death.

The apostle Paul  mentions a “safeguard”  we might not  have thought of before.     Paul wrote  in Philippians 3:1,

Finally,  my brethren,  rejoice  in the Lord.     To write  the same things again  is no trouble  to me,  and  it is a safeguard  for you.

To remember to  “rejoice  in the Lord”  is  “a safeguard  for you”  and everyone.     How can that be?

God is God.     He always has been God  and He always will be God.     He is almighty  —  has created all things  —  and has redeemed us  from our sins  so that we might have eternal life.     We are born sinful  and remain sinful  all our lives.     We are prone  to doing what is evil  in God’s sight  and stupidly bringing God’s eternal,  righteous judgment  down upon us  for our unbelief,  unthankfulness,  and wickedness.

In spite of our stupidity,  God loves us  and wants  to lead us  in the truths  of our being  —  and into a life  of faith,  hope,  and love.     So,  we need  to recognize God’s love and authority  —  and our natural tendency  to condemn ourselves  for all eternity.

For all  that God does  for us  in love,  we need  to  “rejoice  in the Lord”.     We need  to be glad  for His leading,  guiding,  testing,  and forgiving  in Christ Jesus.     When we do  what is right,  we will  “rejoice  in the Lord”.     Doing what is right  is  “a safeguard  for you”.

To  “rejoice  in the Lord”  is to recognize  His saving love  and blessings  —  even in tough times.     Sometimes we don’t recognize God’s love  and truths  in tough times.     That’s why rejoicing  in the eternal truths  of the Lord  is a “safeguard” that will help us remember  the reality  of God’s love  and our being.

Rejoicing,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for keeping us safe  in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
