The Sufferings  of This Present Time

There are sufferings clear around this world.     Radical terrorism  of many sorts  is becoming evident everywhere.     There is political corruption  most everywhere.     Christians are being persecuted  in many countries.     This is not to even mention  all the other kinds  of sufferings  in this world.

The apostle Paul endured all sorts  of sufferings  and near death  as he preached God’s word.     But,  in Romans 8:18,  he wrote,

I consider  that the sufferings  of this present time  are not worthy  to be compared  with the glory  that is to be revealed  to us.

Paul realized  that our lives  are relatively short  in comparison  with all eternity.     He was willing  to undergo  all sorts  of sufferings here  because he trusted  that he was  in God’s care  through it all  —  and he knew  that as he kept  his faith  in Christ Jesus,  an eternity  in heaven  is a reward  far beyond compare.     It’s more than worth our all.

Because we trust  in Jesus alone,  our lives  and outlook  on life  have been changed  from being led  by sin  to being led  by the love  of God Almighty.     As our lives  are being led  by faith,  Paul describes Christians  in Romans 8:23  as,

…having the first fruits  of the Spirit.

We might groan  as we suffer here,  but we also  eagerly look  to our Savior  in faith,  hope,  and love.     Those are the “first fruits  of the Spirit”  working in our lives,  to keep us close to God  and to live  to His glory.     Growing in the “first fruits”  of a changed life,  we realize  more and more  “that the sufferings  of this present time  are not worthy  to be compared  with the glory  that is to be revealed  to us”.

Resting  in our Lord’s care,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your constant care  as we go through this life.”

Love,
Margaret
