In the Splendor of His Holiness
The LORD is set apart from all of us in more ways than we can ever imagine. He is set apart because He is sinless — He is the one-and-only almighty — He created all things — in His loving mercy, He gives us salvation through faith in Jesus alone — He knows all things — He is present everywhere — He is everyone’s Judge — and this list could go on endlessly.
Because of all that He is — and because our every breath is in His hands, we rightly worship, honor, and praise Him. That is why the psalmist wrote in Psalm 96:7-10,
Ascribe to the LORD, all you families of nations,
Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name;
Bring an offering and come into His courts.Worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness;
Tremble before Him, all the earth.Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns.
The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved;
He will judge the peoples with equity.”
When we “worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness“, we are worshiping Him “in the splendor” — the marvelous, beautiful, most holy wonder — of His having made us truly holy in His sight through the forgiveness of all our sins for Jesus’ sake.
We cannot ever make ourselves holy, no matter how hard we try. Only the LORD can bestow on us “the splendor of His holiness”. Because God mercifully washes away all the sins of every repentant believer, we gratefully “worship” Him, and “ascribe” to Him all the glories “due His name”. The LORD is holy and He makes us holy through faith in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.
Realizing the eternal riches of God’s forgiveness, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, as forgiven sinners, how very glad we are that You alone reign over all things in holiness.”
Love,
Margaret
