People Draw Near  With Their Words

Life is filled  with people desiring  to get something  to reach  their hidden goal.     They might want money  —  support for their cause  —  a higher standing  in the community  —  or whatever.     They don’t advertise  their real goal,  but set forth a pretentious friendliness  in hopes  of getting  one’s support.     It’s social politics  at all levels  in society.

Even in a worship atmosphere,  “people draw near  with their words”  —  they think  they can get God Almighty  to believe them  and give them  what they want  —  like eternal life.     But the LORD can never be fooled  by mere “words”.     In Isaiah 29:13-14,  God says  to the hypocritical,

Because  this people  draw near  with their words
And honor Me  with their lip service,
But they remove  their hearts  far from Me,
And their reverence  for Me consists  of tradition learned  by rote,
Therefore behold,  I will once gain deal marvelously  with this people,  wondrously marvelous;
And the wisdom  of their wise men  will perish,
And the discernment  of their discerning men  will be concealed.

This sort of  “rote”  “reverence” results in  all sorts  of false teachings,  cults,  and confusion.     The people think going to church  will put them  in God’s graces  —  but they don’t want  to read God’s word  or learn from it.     Rather,  they want to drag in  the heathen traditions  of the world  —  like Halloween.

People “remove their hearts far”  from God  when they love heathen  Halloween traditions  more than honoring God  in the truths  of His holy word.     They want the candy  and thrill  of creepy costumes,  as they honor heathen Halloween customs  —  but imagine  God will overlook their far away “hearts”  in their pretentious worship.

God will  “deal marvelously” with them as  “the wisdom  of their wise men will perish”.     Losing the wisdom  of God’s word will bring eternal judgment.     Is that what we want  to give  to our children?

Knowing how precious God’s word is,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your loving instruction  in Your eternal word.”

Love,
Margaret
