Working In Us That Which Is Pleasing In His Sight

Some people  who are farmers,  janitors,  waitresses,  and moms at home  feel that they are not “working”  for God.     Although I must say,  a garbage man we had  a few years ago  knew that he was working  for the Lord  and often made  quick,  pleasant references  to his Savior.     He was happy  in his good work.

I thought  of him while reading  the parting words  of the writer  of Hebrews 13:20-21,

Now the God  of peace,  who brought up  from the dead  the great Shepherd  of the sheep  through the blood  of the eternal covenant,  even Jesus  our Lord,  equip you  in every good thing  to do His willworking in us  that which is pleasing  in His sight,  through Jesus Christ,  to whom be the glory  forever and ever.      Amen.

The Hebrews  he was writing to  were in all sorts  of occupations.     Notice that he wrote,  “The God  of peace……. equip you  in every good thing  to do His will”.     When we look  to Christ  to supply  our needs,  He will  “equip” us  “to do His will”.     We don’t daily live  for God  by our own strength,  determination,  talent,  and wherewithal.     By faith,  God leads  our way  through each day  to be  “pleasing  in His sight”.

Whatever our occupation,  God is  “working in us  that which is pleasing  in His sight”.     Yes,  we sometimes stubbornly insist  on going our own way  —  but our own way bugs us,  and shows us  what is  “pleasing  in His sight”.     Ashamed of our waywardness,  and glad  for God’s patient faithfulness,  we turn  to do His will  because it is so good and right.

In that  we are being equipped  “to do His will”.     God  is faithfully “working”  with us all our lives  —  and we cannot live without Him.

All “glory” goes  to God alone  and we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  blessed be Your faithful love.”

Love,
Margaret
