You Have Taught Me From My Youth

God works  in the hearts  of even the very young.     One could think  of Jeremiah 1:5,  when the LORD told Jeremiah,

Before I formed you  in the womb  I knew you,
And before you were born  I consecrated you.

Then in Luke 1:41  we read about John the Baptist,

And it came about  that when Elizabeth heard  Mary’s greeting,  the baby leaped  in her womb,  and Elizabeth was filled  with the Holy Spirit.

There are also verses about Samson,  David,  Samuel,  and others.     The point is  that God’s workings  in the hearts  of people  can begin  when they are very young  —  even in the womb  —  and the faith  of little children  is a precious thing.     An old man  wrote Psalm 71  and had this to say  in verses 17 through 19,

O God,  You have taught me  from my youth,
And I still declare  Your wondrous deeds.
And even when I am old and gray,  O God,  do not forsake me,
Until I declare  Your strength  to this generation,
Your power  to all  who are to come.
For  Your righteousness,  O God,  reaches  to the heavens,
You who have done  great things;
O God,  who is like You?

Because God loves  and teaches us all,  no matter what our age,  Jesus said  in Matthew 19:14,

Let the little children come  to Me,  and do not forbid them;  for of such  is the kingdom  of heaven.

Faith is something  to marvel at,  for it can be  in babies  and tiny children,  who have to be  in the care  of parents  —  and in the very aged,  who again  need to be  in the care  of other people.

So thankful  for God’s faithful nearness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for stooping down  to live  in our hearts.”

Love,
Margaret
