So That You May Be Kept From Stumbling

The media  has many reports  of unbelievers efforts  to force  the taking down of crosses  and nativity scenes  —  disallowing Christian songs  in public places  —  forcing Christian businesses  to go against their faith  by serving the gay community  —  not allowing Christian pastors  to preach sermons  against the unbeliever’s  “politically correct”  ideas,  etc.

There are also many churches  corrupting God’s word  and trying  to bully their congregations  into accepting  false doctrines and practices.     All these anti-Christian movements  are discouraging  and many Christians  are feeling persecuted  —  because these are  all acts  of persecution.

But, God wants us  to realize that all these things  are in His hands.     In the gospels of Matthew,  Mark,  Luke,  and John,  Jesus tells us  to expect  this sort of treatment  in the last days.     Jesus said  in John 16:1-4,

These things  I have spoken  to you  so that you may be kept  from stumbling.     They will make you outcasts  from the synagogue,  but an hour  is coming  for everyone  who kills you  to think  that he is offering service  to God.     These things  they will do  because they have not known  the Father  or Me.     But  these things  I have spoken  to you,  so that when their hour comes,  you may remember  that I told you  of them.

Jesus wants us  to remain strong  in the blessed truths  of His eternal word,  so we won’t stumble  from the truth  or lose  our salvation.     True Christians will be hated  and become “outcasts”,  even being killed  by unbelievers  of every sort.

Whatever trials  are to come,  Jesus has promised  to be near  and said  in John 14:27,

Peace I leave  with you;  My peace I give  to you;  not as the world gives  do I give  to you.     Do not let your heart  be troubled,  nor let it be fearful.

Grounded  in Jesus’ promises,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for the peace  of Your presence.”

Love,
Margaret
