I the LORD Search the Heart
I, the LORD, Search the Heart
Some people imagine that they will easily make it into heaven because they appear to live an outwardly acceptable life in their estimation. Other people seem to think they are pretty nice, too — after all, they make okay neighbors and don’t cause any problems. But, the LORD knows us all in a much more intimate way and says in Jeremiah 17:9-10,
The heart is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?
I, the LORD, search the heart
and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct,
according to what their deeds deserve.
Seeing this, some will still be confident of getting to heaven because their “conduct” and “deeds” are fine. But, they overlook the fact that “the heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure”. Many people fool themselves into imagining they are good enough and forget about any evil thoughts they have had — and the fact that we are all born in sin. People know how to deceive themselves and justify all their evil, faithless ways.
People don’t take into account how they disregard the LORD by not confessing their sins and asking for forgiveness. They don’t have faith in the LORD during trials. They don’t love the LORD enough to pay attention to His word. They feel they know better than the LORD when they indulge in their pet sins. And the list goes on.
But, when the LORD searches “the heart” and “the mind”, He sees much more truth than we want to face. The “conduct” and “deeds” the LORD searches for are faith, hope, and love. All God’s saints are sinners, but they have faith, hope, and love.
What does the LORD find in our hearts and minds? When we know we don’t have what we should have, we can ask our heavenly Father, and He will gladly answer our prayer as we abide in His promises.
Thankful for God’s love, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for guiding us in Your love.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
