In the Wisdom of God

Many think  it is good  to be proud.     It’s even encouraged  in schools  and sports.     But,  the pride  of this world  brings many problems  like arrogance,  as they think  they’re smart  in putting others  down.     That is why  Proverbs 16:18  warns,

Pride goes  before destruction,
And a haughty spirit  before stumbling.

The sins of “pride”  will be judged  in eternity  —  and God has promised  to destroy it all  because it tears down other people.     We need  to remember  that the LORD  is most humble  —  even though He is God Almighty.

People think so highly  of themselves  regarding their so-called intelligence,  talents,  and accomplishments,  but they are silly and utterly foolish  when compared  to God’s wisdom  and almighty powers.       God’s wisdom  brought about our salvation  through the perfect sacrifice  of Christ Jesus  to pay for all our sins.     And,  look how humble  God has been  in doing all that  for us wretched sinners.

We don’t have anything  to be proud of  because everything we have  is a gift  from God  —  we need  to humbly realize that.     But  instead,  worldly people  laugh  at the cross  as foolishness  —  even as they are condemning themselves  for eternity.     That is real foolishness.

Pride  prevents people  from humbly believing  and trusting  in their Creator Redeemer.     That is why 1 Corinthians 1:21  explains,

Since  in the wisdom  of God  the world  through its wisdom  did not come to know God,  God was well-pleased  through the foolishness  of the message preached  to save those  who believe.

God’s wisdom  is marvelous  as it simply requires us  to humbly  have faith  in Jesus  to obtain the gift  of salvation.     Worldly pride arrogantly  does not know how  to believe  and trust God.     We might look dumb  to the world,  but God saves all  who believe  in Him.

So glad  for God’s marvelous  “wisdom”,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  You alone  know how  to save  sinful mankind.”

Love,
Margaret
