You Cast My Words Behind You

God has something  to say  to pretentious Christians  who do all sorts  of crooked,  dishonest things  —  lie  — slander  — and imagine  that God doesn’t care.     In Psalm 50:16-17,  Asaph wrote,

But  to the wicked  God says,
“What right  have you  to tell  of My statutes
And to take My covenant  in your mouth?

“For you hate discipline,
And you cast  My words  behind you.”

These pretentious  religious people  think God doesn’t care  what they do  because they have never been caught  or punished for their evils.     They “hate”  having God tell them  how to live.     When they “cast”  God’s  “words”  behind them,  they are despising  what the Bible has  to say  about their particular sins  —  and God’s judgement  of those sins.     But,  listen  to what God says  in verses 22-23,

“Now consider this,  you who forget God,
Or I will  tear you  in pieces,  and there will be none  to deliver.

“He who offers  a sacrifice  of thanksgiving  honors Me;
And  to him  who orders  his way aright
I shall show  the salvation  of God.”

This is amazing!     God warns  of His judgment  to eternal destruction  —  but  —  He also gives  the sinner  yet another chance  to change his ways  and realize the eternal value  of the gift  of “salvation”.

God is always giving us  another chance  to straighten out,  so that He will have  an opportunity  to forgive  and save us  for all eternity.

That’s  an overwhelming amount  of amazing grace.     But,  this stupendous offer  is good  only for this lifetime.     Hebrews 9:27  teaches us,

It is appointed  for men  to die once  and after this  comes judgment.

It’s only sensible  to listen  and take  to heart  everything  God teaches us  in His word.     We’ll be ever so glad we did.

So glad  for God’s patience  with us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  create in us  clean hearts  and right spirits  that love  the goodness  of Your word  and salvation  in Christ Jesus.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.
