In the Day of Trouble
In the Day of Trouble
In this lifetime, we can’t get away from “the day of trouble”. Rather, we all have many and various days “of trouble” — sometimes years “of trouble”.
In his life, King David had constant troubles of every sort. That led him to sing in Psalm 27:4-6,
One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD
And to meditate in His temple.
For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle;
In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
He will lift me up on a rock.
And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me,
And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.
We can be sure that God answered David’s prayer to “dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life”. We know that because to the very end of David’s life, he trusted in God to lead him through every challenge.
David dwelt in God’s house as he spent time in prayer, praise, and meditating on God’s word. We can do the same. When we do, God will “hide” us “in the secret place of His tent” — that is in the wondrous, eternal truths of His word. There He will “lift” us up on the “rock” of the surety of His solid, eternal word in Christ.
Whoever — or whatever — our “enemies” might be, as we “sing praises to the LORD” in the midst of our troubles, He will lift us up to the glory of His name.
As we wait for the LORD and sing His praises, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for delivering us according to Your wisdom.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
