The One Who Loves His Brother Abides in the Light

The whole gospel centers around God’s love  and forgiveness  for all  of us.     That undeserved love  of God  changes all  who believe  that Jesus  has actually paid  the penalty  for every single sin  of ours.     How do we change?     1 John 4:19 says,

We love,  because He first loved us.

It’s that simple.     When we realize  that we deserve nothing  but hell  for all eternity  —  and then,  that Jesus lovingly paid the penalty  for our sins,  so that we get  to go to heaven instead  for all eternity  —  a believing heart  becomes an awesomely  grateful heart  that begins  to love others  the way  we have been loved.     Any time we sin,  we repent  and admit it  to Jesus,  and He will wash away  our sins.

We stay pure,  holy,  and forgiven  through faith.

We know  we are rightly believing  because our love  for Jesus’ ongoing gift  of forgiveness  leads us  to try imitating Him  regarding His love,  patience,  humility,  and righteousness.     So,  the apostle John pointed out  the difference between believers  and unbelievers  in 1 John 2:9-11,

The one  who says he is in the Light  and yet hates  his brother  is in the darkness  until now.     The one  who loves his brother  abides  in the Light  and there is no cause  for stumbling  in him.     But the one  who hates  his brother  is in the darkness  and walks  in the darkness,  and does not know  where he is going  because the darkness  has blinded  his eyes.

So,  we daily check out  our lives.     Are we loving  and caring  like Jesus    —  or are we unforgiving  and hateful towards others?

We let the Light  of God’s word  guide  our living,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  Your love  brings a wonderful peace.”

Love,
Margaret
