I Am the Bread of Life

I Am the Bread of Life
We all know that no one can stay healthy living on junk food. It might taste good, but it is only junk food. It doesn’t even honestly fill the tummy — it only makes one crave for more.
When Jesus was preaching, many loved following Him because He miraculously fed them “bread” — and He did wondrous miracles. But, Jesus plainly told them that those things were not important, because they did not lead to “eternal life”. Jesus further explained that what they really needed was to “believe in Him” whom God sent.
Then, they wanted a “sign” like the “manna in the wilderness” the Israelites received when they were freed from slavery in Egypt. Jesus had to tell them in John 6:32-33,
It is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.
Of course, the people wanted that — whatever it was. So, Jesus replied in John 6:35,
I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.
We come to Jesus to receive from Him when we study His eternal word in the Bible. When we believe what He says in His word, we will be satisfied. Seeing the promises God made in the Old Testament — and their fulfillment in Christ Jesus in the New Testament satisfies our “hunger” and “thirst” for the truths about eternal life.
The bottom line — we need to be honestly satisfied about eternal life. That satisfaction only comes through knowing and believing in Jesus.
Going to Jesus in His word — the Bible — we find the assurance of forgiveness, and say, “Hallelujah! Lord Jesus, Your words are eternal life.”
Love,
Margaret
