That I Might Walk Before God in the Land of the Living

Psalm 56 reveals King David’s prayer  when the Philistines  captured him  in Gath.     David’s whole psalm is presented below  as translated  by William F. Beck  in his Bible translation called:  The Holy Bible in the Language of Today — An American Translation.

Be kind  and help me,  O God,
men trample  on me.
They fight all day long  and they oppress me;
all day long  my enemies hound me,
as many  fight against me.

O Most High,  when I’m afraid,
I put my trust  in You.
In God — I praise  His Word —
In God I trust — I’m not afraid;
what can flesh do  to me?

All day long  they cause me grief,
thinking  only to harm me.
They start  a fight  and then hide.
They watch  where I go
because they’re eager  to kill me.

With the wrong they do,  can they escape?
In Your anger,  O God,  put down  the peoples.

Write down  for Yourself  my lament;
put my tears  in Your water-skin —
aren’t they  in Your scroll?
Then my enemies  will have to
turn back  on the day  I call;
for this I know;   God is with me.

In God — I praise His Word —
In the LORD — I praise His word —
In God I trust — I’m not afraid;
what can man do  to me?

I’m under vows  to You,  O God.
I will carry them out  by praising You.

You have rescued me  from death,
and kept my foot  from stumbling,
that I might walk  before God
in the land  of the living.

David’s prayer is relevant  to situations  many Christians face  when unbelievers oppress them.     So,  we do well  to consider the truths  David presents.

Depending  on our Savior,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You for keeping us  from stumbling  as we abide in Your word  and praise Your word.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.
