The Time Will Come

Because Jesus will judge absolutely every one  of us,  the apostle Paul told Timothy to always patiently preach God’s truths  and to “reprove,  rebuke, exhort” whenever necessary.   ( 2 Timothy 4:1-2 )

There is very good reason  for that.     We are all a bunch  of sinners,  loving our own imaginations,  wanting our own way,  and easily misled  by false teachers.     But,  when we have our own way,  we are not  in God’s truth.     Rather,  we are turning to the lies  of this world  and bringing eternal judgment  upon ourselves.     So,  Paul described  this world’s ways  in 2 Timothy 4:3-5,

For the time will come  when they will not endure sound doctrine;  but wanting  to have their ears tickled,  they will accumulate for themselves teachers  in accordance  to their own desires,  and will turn away  their ears  from the truth  and will turn aside  to myths.     But you,  be sober  in all things,  endure hardship,  do the work  of an evangelist,  fulfill your ministry.

That describes today’s world.     Many who claim  to be Christian  follow all sorts  of cults  and false doctrines.     Just sticking to God’s word  in the Bible  seems too boring,  so they want  to hear something more interesting  and enjoyable.

The only way we will know  if we are sticking to God’s word,  as we should,  is to study it  —  a bit every day.     If we don’t check out God’s word  for ourselves,  we’ll easily fall  for any  and every myth  and false doctrine.     Do we really want  to face Judgment Day  with that sort  of guilt?     Do we really want  to be guilty  of dragging others down  with us?

It is so much better  to let God’s truths strengthen  and uphold us  as we face our daily trials.

In the peace  and joy  of God’s word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your love  and salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus  provide all good things.”

Love,
Margaret
