Sing for Joy to God Our Strength

When we take  an honest,  hard look  at our lives,  there have been many times  when we’ve been rescued  from some sort  of dire circumstance.     Time and again  we’ve been saved  by the hair of our chinny-chin-chin.     We probably felt great relief  and most likely  a whole lot  of awe  —  but  —  did we thank God?

It was not “luck”  that saved us.     It was not really  our own smarts,  strength,  or gumption either.     It was God Almighty,  who blessed us  and made things work together  for our good  —  even though we thought  the going was tough.

Psalm 81 tells  how God freed Israel  from slavery  —  and how it is only good  and right  for them  to admit it  and remember it  with thanksgiving.     So,  Psalm 81:1 says,

Sing  for joy  to God  our strength;
Shout joyfully  to the God  of Jacob.

God has many ways  of giving us the  “strength”  we need  for every circumstance.     He alone is aware  of our every need  before we even know  we will be having a need.     Because God patiently,  faithfully,  and lovingly cares  for us  throughout our lives,  we owe Him  joyful thanksgiving  and rightful worship.     Note how Psalm 81 calls the LORD,  “God our strength”.     We can’t even breathe  without Him.     Everything we have  is a gift  from God.

Nehemiah 8:10  tells us,

The joy  of the LORD  is your strength.

In whatever life brings  our way,  believing and trusting the LORD  gives us an inner “joy”  that becomes our “strength”.

Glad  for the “joy”  and peace  God gives,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  it is so good  to know  that You alone  are our strength.”

Love,
Margaret
