That Is Your Teacher?

That Is Your Teacher?

Human nature  tends  to be proud  of their accomplishments  and take joy  in them  —  whatever sort  of accomplishments  they might be.     Our imaginations  can be so creative,  fun,  and captivating  that they absorb  our full attention.     But,  when we give more attention  and honor  to our imaginations,  than to God,  we’ve got some serious  reality problems.

When Israel  was absorbed  in all sorts  of sins,  the prophet Habakkuk  gave them dire warnings  regarding all their sins.     In Habakkuk 2:18-20  he taught them  regarding their imaginations,

What profit  is the idol  when its maker  has carved it,
Or an image,  a teacher  of falsehood?
For its maker trusts  in his own handiwork
When he fashions  speechless idols.

Woe to him  who says  to a piece  of wood,  “Awake!”
To a mute stone,  “Arise!”
And  that  is your teacher?
Behold,  it is overlaid  with gold  and silver,
And there is no breath  at all  inside it.

But  the LORD  is in His holy temple.
Let all the earth  be silent  before Him.

Christians might  read that  and be glad  that they don’t bow down  to an idol  of wood,  stone,  or metal.     Or do they?

Come Christmas,  atheists,  Christians,  and people of every religion  take great joy  in lots of presents,  decorations,  and Santa Claus.     Join the crowd.     Nobody wants  to be left out of the celebration.     But,  just what are they celebrating?

They teach their children  to send letters  to Santa  —  make up more stories  about Santa  —  greedily hope they get  the gifts they covet most  —  and are bothered  by someone occasionally mentioning Jesus.

Surveys show  many are clueless  that Christmas is  supposed to be  a time  of worship  and praising God  for sending us  our Savior  from sin.     Many object  to having Jesus  “intrude” upon their Christmas celebration.     But,  the way things are,  Santa is “a teacher of falsehood”.     He’s an imagination run amuck  that leads people  to distain Christ Jesus.

But the LORD  is in His holy temple.
Let all the earth  be silent  before Him.

In awe  of God’s patient love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  blessed be  Your holy name.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.
