His Name

Names have meaning,  and we can look up the meaning  of whatever name we are interested in.     Many will name their newborn child  according to the meaning  of a name.     Immanuel,  one of the names given to Jesus,  means “God with us“.     Jesus means  “Jehovah saves“.     Christ means “Anointed“.

These are all names  that describe  different aspects  of our Savior.     The Bible also gives many more names  of our Savior.     Isaiah 9:6 lists four more  of them,

For a child  will be born  to us,  a son will be given  to us;
And the government  will rest  on His shoulders;
And His name  will be called  Wonderful Counselor,  Mighty God,
Eternal Father,  Prince of Peace.

We need  to take time  to consider all  of these names  because they all reveal  what God wants us to know  about Him.     Each “name”  is another nugget  of truth  that we need  to always keep  in mind  to help us realize  just how great  and awesome God is.     He is far beyond  what any human mind can fully comprehend  all at once,  so we need to consider a little bit at a time.

Other names  of Jesus include:  Redeemer  —  Rock  —  King of kings  —  Lord of lords  —  Fortress  —  Shield  —  Bridegroom  —  Husband  —  Prophet  —  Priest  —  King  —  Shepherd  —  Lamb of God  —  Only begotten God  —  Creator  —  Son of Man  —  Son of God  —  Judge  —  Mediator  —  Messiah  —  Teacher  —  Way  —  Truth  —  Life  —  Vine  —  Branch  —  and so much more.

As we read  and study God’s word  to us,  it is good  to make note  of His many names,  so we can gain a better understanding  of His almighty being  and faithful love  for us.

Appreciating  all that God is  in our  seemingly insignificant lives,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD God Almighty,  thank You  for stooping low  to help us  in our needs.”

Love,
Margaret
