This Is What Has Been Written by the Prophet

On a recent TV show,  an interviewer  went out  to ask a number  of people  where Jesus was born.     Quite a few  had no clue  —  some thought Jesus was born  in Jerusalem  —  and some said Jesus was born  in Bethlehem.     That interview revealed  how little people know  about our Savior.

The correct  and important answer is  that Jesus  was born  in Bethlehem.     What is so important  about that?     It is just one more little detail  that the LORD  had prophesied  around 700 years  before Jesus’ birth.     If Jesus had not been born  in Bethlehem,  then He could not claim  to be the long-promised Savior.     Being born  in Bethlehem  is one more proof  that Jesus is who He said He is  —  and that God truly is almighty.

God’s prophecy is found  in Micah 5:2,

But  as for you,  Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Too little  to be among the clans  of Judah,
From you  One will go forth  for Me  to be ruler  in Israel.
His goings forth  are from long ago,
From the days  of eternity.

To show  that all the Jewish religious leaders understood  this prophecy,  when the magi came  to worship  the “King of the Jews”  they asked where He was  to be born,  the religious leaders replied  in Matthew 2:5,

In Bethlehem  of Judea;  for this is what has been written  by the prophet.

Joseph and Mary lived  in Nazareth,  but  to make His prophecy come true,  God led the emperor  to take a census,  and everybody had to go  to their home town  to be registered.     Joseph and Mary’s home town  was Bethlehem,  so they had  to go there  to be registered  —  and there Jesus was born.

All things are possible  for God Almighty  —  and He gives testimony  to that  by having Jesus born  in Bethlehem.

In awe  of God’s power  in the details  of many prophecies,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Blessed be the LORD God Almighty.”

Love,
Margaret
