The Zeal of the LORD

The Zeal of the LORD

To have “zeal”  is to have  a deep devotion  and intense enthusiasm  towards accomplishing one’s goal.     God set a goal  for Himself  in the Garden  of Eden  when Adam and Eve fell  into sin.     God promised a Savior and a judgment of evil.     Ever since that time,  God zealously worked out His plan  for a Savior.     With attention  to the very smallest  of details  over thousands  of years,  God kept on working out those details  of His salvation  through faith.

Over those thousands  of years  God made many different prophecies  for the people  of Israel  that He fulfilled  to show them His almighty ability  to keep His promises.     Those  were prophecies  of a Promised Land,  of children born to some of the Israelites,  success in battle, etc.      All those fulfilled promises  were to build up the faith  of the people.     At the same time,  many prophecies were made  regarding the Savior,  and the people just had to have faith  that God would keep those prophecies  —  just as He had kept other prophecies.

When Isaiah started  to preach  and prophesy  some 700 years B.C.  he made many detailed prophecies  about the Savior.     They all came true  in Christ Jesus.     When Isaiah prophesied the birth  of our Savior and described Christ as our ruler,  he said in Isaiah 9:7,

The zeal  of the LORD  of hosts  will accomplish this.

God’s “zeal” certainly did fulfill  all His prophecies  about a Savior.     That is all proven  in history.     Seeing God fulfill His word  is meant  to build up our faith  in Christ Jesus  as our Savior.     But,  we need  to pay attention  to God’s word  by reading and studying it.     That is why Romans 10:17 says,

So faith comes  from hearing,  and hearing  by the word  of Christ.

As we see God’s  love  and “zeal”  for our full salvation,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for giving us  so many testimonies  of Your almighty truths.”

Love,
Margaret
