Salvation From Our Enemies

When Zacharias prophesied  about his new-born son,  John the Baptist,  in Luke 1:68-75,  he said,

Blessed be the Lord God  of Israel,
For He has visited us  and accomplished  redemption  for His people,
And has raised up a horn  of salvation for us
In the house  of David  His servant  —
As He spoke  by the mouth  of His holy prophets  from of old  —
Salvation  from our enemies,
And from the hand  of all  who hate us;
To show mercy  toward  our fathers,
And to remember  His covenant,
The oath  which He swore  to Abraham  our father,
To grant us  that we,  being rescued  from the hand  of our enemies,
Might serve Him  without fear,
In holiness  and righteousness  before Him  all our days.

God’s  “holy prophets  from of old”  were speaking  of more  than an army  from another country.     Everybody needs a “salvation from our enemies”.     But,  who in God’s eyes  are our very worst enemies?     Is it not Satan  and his followers?

When we fall into sin  and unbelief,  we have been defeated  by Satan.     We might not even realize it  as we wallow  in our sins.     Kid yourself not  —  Satan hates us  for trusting Jesus.     John the Baptist preached  to show people how Satan tears them down  into sin  —  and their need for repentance and faith.

Let us pay attention  to God’s  “salvation  from our enemies”  through faith  in Jesus.     Trusting God’s eternal promises,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your eternally faithful promises.”

Love,
Margaret
