Sometimes, doing things “secretly” have good and loving surprises in mind. And, then again sometimes, doing things “secretly” have sinister, evil plans in mind that won’t work unless they remain hidden. King Herod of Judea had very sinister, evil plans when the magi from the East asked where the new “King of the Jews” was to be born. They had followed “a star” and felt like it was pointing to Jerusalem, the capital of Judea.
Seeing “a star” was important because of Balaam’s prophecy of a King in Numbers 24:17, describing a powerful king,
I see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not near;
A star shall come forth from Jacob,
A scepter shall rise from Israel,
And shall crush through the forehead of Moab,
And tear down all the sons of Sheth.
Herod wanted all the power and was not willing to give it up. So, Herod asked the Jewish religious leaders where the Christ King was to be born. They answered, “Bethlehem”, because Micah 5:2 says,
But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Too little to be among the clans of Judah,
From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.
His goings forth are from long ago,
From the days of eternity.
Then Herod “secretly” told the Magi where to find the baby King — and to report back, so he too could worship the new King. That was an evil lie because Herod wanted to kill the baby Jesus before He had a chance to grow up and take the throne.
God foiled Herod’s sinister plan. But even today, Satan works through unbelievers “secretly” making plans to tear down Christianity. Some of Satan’s techniques include false doctrines, cults, New Age practices, superstitions, greed for worldly stuff, faithlessness, etc.
But, God remains with all who put their trust in Him, so we say, “Hallelujah! Lord, thank You for Your eternal victory, over sin, death, and the devil.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
