Those Who Live in a Dark Land

Everybody  in this world  lives  “in a dark land”.     In other words,  we live  in a world  of sin.     Sin is a spiritual  darkness.     We sin — and all those around us sin.     And,  sin hurts.     It hurts  to be slandered,  robbed,  cheated,  lied to  and have someone  be nasty  in any sort of way.

When Isaiah prophesied  the coming  of the Savior   some 700 years before Jesus  was born,  he wrote  about Jesus  in Isaiah 9:2,

The people  who walk  in darkness
Will see  a great light;
Those  who live  in a dark land,
The light  will shine  on them.

A great thing  was to happen  to all  “the people  who walk  in darkness”,  that is everybody.     The great thing was  that they  “will see  a great light”,  and  “the light will shine  on them”.     That light  is Jesus.     It’s as John 1:4-5 says,

In Him  was life,  and the life  was the Light  of men.     The Light shines  in the darkness,  and the darkness  did not comprehend it.

There obviously are many people living  in sin,  who refuse to “comprehend”  that Jesus  really wants  to wash away all  of their sins —  bad as they may be.     Some don’t believe Jesus  has the power  and authority  to take away  all their guilt  and sin.

Jesus alone  has the power  to grant forgiveness  and eternal “life”  in heaven.     Jesus is the “Light” shining  in our sinful world  to show us  that faith  in Him  will give us eternal  “life”.     We just need  to “see”  God’s truths  and believe them — “comprehend” them.     As John 3:21 says,

He who practices  the truth  comes  to the Light,  so that his deeds  may be manifested  as having been wrought  in God.

When we see God’s love  for us  in Christ,  we grow  in love  and begin  to practice  “the truth”  of God.     In other words,  we believe  and practice living  as a child  of God should live.

Seeing Jesus  as our Savior,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for showing us the way.”

Love,
Margaret
