They Are Justified Freely

If don’t listen  to all  of God’s word,  it is easy  to get a wrong impression.    For example,  Romans 3:23-24  is sometimes wrongly used.     It says,

For all have sinned,  and come short  of the glory  of God;  they are justified freely  by His grace  through the redemption  that is in Christ Jesus.

All of this is true.     We truly are justified freely  by His grace”.     We are “all” sinners,  who don’t deserve  to be saved,  but  “by His grace  through the redemption  that is in Christ Jesus”,  God “freely” grants forgiveness  and eternal life  —  to absolutely all  who believe  —  but  —  not to unbelievers.     It’s wrong  to claim  everyone will be saved,  no matter what they believe.

Throughout God’s word,  it describes evil things done  by unbelievers.     The unbelievers are  repeatedly  and faithfully offered  God’s grace  and free justification,  but they reject it  and continue  to hate God’s ways  and remain  in unbelief.     Therefore,  verses like  2 Thessalonians 2:12  explain their end,

…in order  that they all may be judged  who did not believe  the truth,  but took pleasure  in wickedness.

Rejecting God’s grace  in stubborn unbelief  condemns the unbeliever  for eternity.      1 John 5:10  explains why,

The one  who believes  in the Son  of God  has the testimony  in himself;  the one  who does not believe God  has made Him  a liar,  because he has not believed  in the testimony  that God  has given  concerning  His Son.

It is most evil  to call our holy Creator Redeemer  “a liar”  —  claiming  that Jesus cannot save us  eternally.     Some  who do not believe God’s promises  in Christ  claim that people must  work their way  into heaven  with all sorts of good works  —  others don’t believe there is a God  —  or they trust in idols  of some sort.

Jesus was born  so He could freely  justify all  who simply believe  in Him.     Now He knocks  at our heart’s door  with that free offer  of grace.     Will we take Him  at His word?

Rejoicing in God’s grace,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your persistent  and faithful love.”

Love,
Margaret
