His Indescribable Gift

There is something  that defies description.     No matter how much we describe  how God has gone about  making our eternal salvation possible,  we’ve never described it all.     God worked out  our salvation  over thousands  of years,  since the Garden of Eden  —  and he keeps on  working on it  in our individual hearts  —  day-by-day  strengthening us  in His truths,  and uplifting us  when we feel down.

When we realize  just some  of what God has done  to bring us  to a true faith  that will lead us  into eternal life,  we can only marvel  and say with 2 Corinthians 9:15,

Thanks be  to God  for His indescribable gift!

Everything that God does for us  is a “gift”  that expresses  His love  and faithfulness towards us.     We aren’t able  to do anything  to make ourselves worthy  of eternal life.     That’s why God has to  give it to us  as a “gift”  —  a gift through the blood  of Christ Jesus,  to be blunt  about it.

So,  Ephesians 2:8-10  explains more  about our situation,

For  by grace  you have been saved  through faith;  and that  not of yourselves,  it is the gift  of God;  not as a result  of works,  so that no one  may boast.     For we are His workmanship,  created  in Christ Jesus  for good works,  which God prepared beforehand  so that we would walk  in them.

If we want  to describe  eternal life  as something  we’ve merited  through our good works  and efforts,  we’ve just called God Almighty a liar  —  because His eternal word repeatedly tells us  that we are saved  unto eternal life  as a gift of God”.

For such a gracious “gift”,  it behooves us  to humbly  accept it  with thanksgiving  and lives that express  our thanksgiving  for our Savior.

Marveling at how God can love us  so graciously,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your indescribable gift!”

Love,
Margaret
