One Day

God created the concept  of time  for us  with the orbits  of the stars,  moon,  earth,  and the earth’s rotation.     But, with God,  there is no time.

With our limitations  of life span  and getting physically tired,  people are necessarily  very time oriented.     We have to be  to work on time  —  make meals  on time  —  keep appointments  on time,  etc.     So,  when some people know  that God has promised a Judgment Day,  but it hasn’t happened yet,  they start imagining  that God doesn’t really exist.     They don’t see any power  in a God,  who hasn’t kept such a promise  in their time frame.

When such people mocked the idea  of a God  who supposedly  can’t keep a promise,  Peter wrote  in 2 Peter 3:8-9,

But do not let this one fact escape your notice,  beloved,  that with the Lord  one day  is like a thousand years,  and a thousand years  like one day.     The Lord is not slow  about His promise,  as some count slowness,  but is patient  toward you,  not wishing  for any  to perish  but for all  to come  to repentance.

Moses said something similar  to God  in Psalm 90:4,

For  a thousand years  in Your sight
Are like yesterday  when it passes by,
Or as a watch  in the night.

God’s creation  of time  is a great blessing  to us weak mortals.     Times for rest  refresh our bodies  and the bodies  of all animal life  —  not to mention  the life cycles  of all plant life.     Limited life spans  help us  to look  to God  for our needs  and humble us  as we realize our frailty.     We need that.

The light  of the sun  does more than physically  brighten and energize  our day  —  it brightens  and renews  our spirits.

Time is a miracle  created by the almighty LORD  for our benefit.     Let us use it well  in faith,  hope,  and love — praising God  and saying,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You for Your wisdom  in caring for us.”

Love,
Margaret
