Where the Good Way Is

It’s wise  to learn  the best  “way”  to reach one’s destination.     So,  we check things out  ahead of time  and ask  for directions.     That’s better  than meeting up  with washed out roads,  detours,  potholes,  dead ends,  etc.

The same holds true  for our “walk”  through this life.     Jeremiah 6:16 says,

Thus says  the LORD,
“Stand by the ways  and see  and ask  for the ancient paths,
Where the good way is,  and walk  in it;
And you will find rest  for your souls.

Through Jeremiah,  God told the people  of Israel  to check out  all the wisdom  and righteousness  that their forefathers found  in following  the ways  of the LORD.     When their forefathers obeyed  and followed  the LORD’s word,  they received the blessings  of peace  and “rest  for your souls”.     And  —  when they disobeyed,  going their own ways,  they met up with all sorts  of disasters.

The idols  and heathen religious practices  they chose  to follow  gave them no real “rest”  for their “souls”.     Why?     Because those idols  and heathen practices  were falsehoods.     They had no power  to save anyone,  answer prayers,  or create anything.     They were nothing but myths  and hunks of wood,  metal,  or stone.

Anyone who chose  to believe such myths  and falsehoods  would be walking after emptiness.     There’s no sense  or fulfillment  in walking after lies  of any sort.     That’s just as true today  as it was thousands  of years ago.     Much of the Bible is a history book.     It’s authenticity  is supported  by other historical facts.     The guidance  the Bible gives us shows “where the good way is”.

We need to  “see  and ask  for the ancient paths”  that have proven themselves trustworthy.     We do that  by studying God’s word straight  from the Bible  —  not from anyone else’s opinion.     Then we will find “rest”  for our “souls”  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You for showing us  “the good way” home  with You.”

Love,
Margaret
