Knowledge of God

People haven’t changed.     Thousands of years ago,  the Israelites would worship heathen gods  —  and  —  the LORD God Almighty  —  maybe imagining  they had all their bases covered.     The heathen idols seemed  more relevant  and in touch with their human desires  —  but,  the LORD  had a history  of actual power  and righteousness.

Today,  people will acknowledge the LORD  —  and  —  join a cult  or new age movement  using heathen meditation practices.     They seem  to feel  that Christian prayer  and studying God’s word  are not satisfying enough.     In other words,  the LORD  in all His holiness  is rather boring.

They are sure  to continue giving  their offerings,   attending church services,  and taking part  in ‘tiresome’ church activities  because they imagine  that such sacrifices  of their money  and time  will gain them  God’s approval.     But,  God corrects them  in Hosea 6:6,  saying,

For I delight  in loyalty  rather than  sacrifice,
And in the knowledge  of God  rather than  burnt offerings.

Our “sacrifices”  of money,  time,  tons good works,  etc.  are useless  to God.     God does not want  or need such  “sacrifice”  and “burnt offerings”.      The things  from us  that “delight” God  are based  on the truth  of who He is  and who we are.     That is why God wants “loyalty”  from us  and a devotion  that acknowledges  that He alone is God,  our Creator  and Redeemer.     God wants us  to have a true faith,  hope,  and love  for all the right reasons  from a pure heart.

We are not bettering ourselves  with hearts  that want  ‘to earn our way’  with God,  and yet,  build up  our own egos.

So,  we need  to ask ourselves  about our  “knowledge of God”.     Do we realize  who the LORD God really is?     Do we realize His holiness  and love for us?     How has that affected  our lives?

Appreciative  of God’s faithful,  patient love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for keeping us  on the right track.”

Love,
Margaret
