I Hate Every False Way

There are those  who love doing evil  —  and bugging those  they see  as God’s followers.     They purposely lie,  cheat, connive,  and slander,  solely for the purpose  of stressing  someone else.     They love evil  because they don’t believe  in God  or a Judgment Day.     Much of that is  from a lack  of knowledge  of the truths  of God’s word.     They might know a lot  about the world  and what the world sees  as pleasure  —  but they know nothing  about God  and the true facts  of their lives.

That is one  of the many reasons  why the writer  of Psalm 119  was thankful.     The psalmist actually  knew God’s word  and experienced  its trustworthiness.     That’s why  he was able  to say  in Psalm 119:160,

The sum  of Your word  is truth,
And every one  of Your righteous ordinances  is everlasting.

This psalmist realized  that as he studied  all of God’s word  and saw its truths  and goodness  in this life,  he was seeing  the beauty  of God’s holiness,  righteousness  and almighty power.     That is why  he declared  in Psalm 119:104,

From Your precepts  I get understanding;
Therefore   I hate  every false way.

Knowing just how good,  righteous,  and loving  God is  gave him  the “understanding”  of just how awfully ugly  and detrimental  “every false way”  is.     That is why  we see many Bible verses  like the following:

Hate evil,  you who love  the LORD,
Who preserves the souls  of His godly ones;
He delivers them  from the hand  of the wicked.     Psalm 97:10

Hate evil,  love good,
And establish justice  in the gate!
Perhaps the LORD God  of hosts
May be gracious  to the remnant  of Joseph.     Amos 5:15

Let love be  without hypocrisy.      Abhor  what is evil;  cling  to what is good.     Romans 12:9

These are all  God’s loving  and concerned guidance  for every one  of us.     Seeing how greatly loved we are,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for giving us  a true understanding  of the goodness  of Your ways.”

Love,
Margaret
