You Have Made Summer and Winter

With about three more inches  of snow  this morning,  one thinks  about God’s power  over all things  in creation  including our weather  —  “summer and winter”.      The psalmist,  Asaph,  realized this  —  and was especially praying  for God’s control  over every detail  in Israel’s welfare.     Israel was being devastated  by terroristic enemies.     As Asaph remembered  God’s power  in caring  for Israel,  he prayed  in Psalm 74:16-18,

Yours is the day,  Yours also  is the night;
You have prepared  the light  and the sun.

You have established  all the boundaries  of the earth;
You have made  summer  and winter.

Remember this,  O LORD,  that the enemy  has reviled,
And a foolish people  has spurned  Your name.

When we think about the terrorism  going on  throughout this world,  we also  need  to remember  that God Almighty  is in control  of absolutely all things.     Asaph’s description  of terrorists  also describes  the terrorists  of today as  —  a foolish people has spurned  Your name.

Asaph ended his prayer  in Psalm 74:22-23  with,

Arise,  O God,  and plead  Your own cause;
Remember  how the foolish man  reproaches You  all day long.

Do not forget  the voice  of Your adversaries,
The uproar  of those who rise against You  which ascends continually.

The LORD God,  who created heaven  and earth  does “remember how the foolish man reproaches You  all day long”.     God does not forget His  “adversaries”,  who “continually”  rise up against Him.     As has always been true,  God’s “adversaries”  fight Him  by fighting against His children.

But,  our LORD,  who  “made summer  and winter”,  will eternally judge all  “foolish people”  who have spurned His “name”.     As we see  all that God does  around us,  let us believe  and trust  the LORD  who “made summer  and winter”.     He will bring justice  as He has promised.

Remembering God’s power  over  “summer and winter”,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your love  and righteousness.”

A Christian devotional  to glorify  the LORD of lords  and GOD of gods.

Pray for our country.
