With All My Heart I Have Sought You

Because we are all sinners,  we all have a definite  and desperate need  to know  the LORD,  who created us,  and be in tune with Him.     The writer  of Psalm 119  fully realized that  and wanted to be  in a right and proper standing  with his Creator Redeemer.     So,  he wrote  in Psalm 119:10-12,

With all my heart  I have sought You;
Do not  let me wander  from Your commandments.

Your word  I have treasured  in my heart,
That I may not sin  against You.

Blessed are You,  O LORD;
Teach me  Your statutes.

We are all created beings  of the LORD God Almighty.     Everything we are  and have  is from the LORD.     That should be humbling.     For the psalmist it was humbling  —  and comforting.     He knew God loved him  and wanted to bless him,  so he wanted  to be sure  to follow God’s ways,  by treasuring God’s word  in his heart.

Because it is an awesome thing  to be Almighty God’s creation,  the psalmist studied  and meditated  on God’s word  “that I may not sin  against You.”     He recognized God’s word  as the best teaching tool  anyone can have  for learning the ways  of our Maker.     It keeps us  from falling  into the traps  of sinfulness  in this world.

Even though the world mocks  and sneers  at God’s word,  we know better.     We know  God’s word  leads us  to eternal life  because His prophecies  through the ages  have been fulfilled.     Jesus,  the fulfillment  of many prophecies,  said  in John 5:24,

Truly,  truly,  I say  to you,  he who hears My word,  and believes Him  who sent Me,  has eternal life,  and does not come  into judgment,  but has passed  out of death  into life.

In the comfort  of this,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for fulfilling the desires  of our hearts.”

Love,
Margaret
