Establish My Footsteps

Establish My Footsteps

In this world  of so many influences,   it is so important  to pray  with the psalmist  in Psalm 119:133,

Establish  my footsteps  in Your word,
And do not let  any iniquity  have dominion  over me.

Because of the media,  internet,  so many books,  the ease of traveling worldwide,  and the multi-cultural settings  so many live in today,  we are easily influenced  to personally accept  all sorts  of traditions,  morals,  and beliefs  as a part of our own personal lives.     But,  there is a huge difference  between knowing about  other customs and beliefs  —  and making them  a part  of our own personal lives.

Down through the ages  practically every culture  has had interaction  with other cultures.     That is why God warned  His people  way back  in Deuteronomy 12:30,  before they were  to enter the Promised Land,

Beware  that you are not ensnared  to follow them,  after they are destroyed  before you,  and that you do not inquire  after their gods,  saying,  ‘How do these nations  serve their gods,  that I also  may do likewise?’

Instead of wanting  to adopt heathen traditions  and customs,  it’s always vital  that we sincerely pray,  Establish my footsteps  in Your word,  and do not  let any iniquity  have dominion  over me.”

God’s word  is to be our guide  in all  of our living.     Our life style  is to be fashioned after Jesus’ life  and teachings,  as He taught us  to live  in faith,  hope,  and love  —  believing only  in salvation  through the atonement  of His shed blood  on the cross.     Holding to that,  “iniquity” will not be able to “have dominion”  over us.

Resting  in Christ’s sacrifice  for our sins,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for leading us  to follow You  instead of this sinful world.”

Love,
Margaret
