Those Who Dwell in Your House

We know how wonderful it is  to have a good home  to go to.     There we can rest  and get refreshed,  away from the pressures  of the outside world.     But some people  don’t get any rest  or refreshment  being in their home.     They haul their burdens  of the day  with them,  wherever they go  —  and are disheartened  even when they go  to bed.     That’s sad and wearisome.

Things are different  for those resting  and trusting  in the love  and salvation  of our LORD.     They have the same problems  and trials  as everyone else,  but their hearts “dwell”  with the LORD.     As they face  all the burdens  of their lives,  they rest assured  that God surely loves them  —  because Jesus  suffered and died  to pay  for all our sins,  and has prepared  a home  for us  in heaven.

It is by faith  that they “dwell”  with the LORD  —  even while living in the turmoil  of this earth.     As the writer of Psalm 84 thought about this,  he wrote in verse 4,

How blessed  are those  who dwell  in Your house!
They are ever praising You.

There is a special happiness  in knowing  —  and remembering  —  God’s love  and promises  in Christ.     Obviously,  we won’t know  or remember  God’s love  for us  if we don’t  “dwell”  in His word  with believing hearts.     Jesus teaches in John 15:4,

Abide in Me,  and I in you.      As the branch cannot bear fruit  of itself  unless it abides  in the vine,  so neither can you  unless you abide  in Me.

When we “abide”  with Jesus  in His love  —  “dwell”  with Him  in His “house”  —  in His word  —  our faith  will grow  and bear the fruits  of rightly  “praising” God.     And,  in God’s word  we receive the blessings  of rest  and knowing His faithfulness  in love.

That is good reason  to say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for refreshing  and strengthening us  in Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
